Thanks for all the reply' s and pics, really helpful.
I like the idea of putting ultra bright LED 's into a standard de-fusser, especially the low cost ! although I dont have any standard defusers
Baldibird, Im guessing that you are from the ' More is better ' camp ! I bet you could get a tan from them !

I like the soft lighting aswell, I have installed soft ' mood ' lighting but need something brighter for when cooking etc.
Having not had a camper or caravan before this one, I am un aware what everyone else does for lighting etc, I kinda just think what would make life easier when I am out camping, I have completely refitted the interior myself as when I bought it , it was just an empty shell inside, so I have no real comparisons to work with.

I prefer fluorescents - the light is much better spread throughout the general area and although they do use more juice than LED's they're not that onerous as to flatten a battery quickly. How bright it is overall is dictated by how many I turn on; I have two single 8W and two twin 8W
I do have LED's in my van courtesy lights ala jed's thread about courtesy lights and an LED 'Spot' downlighter over the bed area.

I'm the opposite - I *hate* flourescents. All the atmosphere of the office I'm escaping. Might aswell put, say, a shredder in there, carpet tiles and a coffee vending machine, just to round it all off.
The flourescents in my Holdsworth were removed 48 hours after I bought it.
Replaced with Warm White 5w LED GU5.3 wide angle, adjustable spots - brighter than the 35w halogen spot I tested.
Horses for courses obviously. With all my mood lighting, I can't *actually see anything*, but that's not the point.

I put LED's in my cab door light and I couldn't imagine sitting there under something that harsh for a prolonged time. Much prefer my yellowy old 8w flourescents. Though I hate my double flourescent as it's too white.
I have candles too

I'm not 100% sure with lamps this small, but I'm pretty sure you can get different colour lamps
