Setthorns is our fav for a weekend away - the only campsite that is open all year round in the Forest. You do need your own loo there tho'.

Hollands Wood - a fantastic place, only camped in a tent as we did not have our camper then but campers are welcome, the pony's do wander around and if you leave food they wont be shy to help themselves! Enjoy where ever you go... !

kaminokid wrote:Ah "The Forest", its just up the road from us. If the weather looks good we head off early Saturday morning park up in one of the numerous parking areas, tea and bacon butty then off for a nice walk. Denny Wood is our favourite, but there are no facilities there at all just drinking water and toilet disposal. The ponies walk right through the site and it backs onto thick woodland areas where we have seen Stags, deer and foxes. Its very relaxing. We love it.......
Just found out today that Forest Holidays has been taken over by the Caravan and Camping Club so lets hope they dont try to modernise all the sites, so they loose their tranquillity and back to basics feel.
Enjoy!
:ok :ok :ok :ok

You lucky devil being so close that you can just up and off on a Saturday 8) Unsure about all the Forest sites but I do know that Roundhill (much like Denny's wood early/late season) has had the toilet/washing up facilities upgraded but still no electrics. We were a littled miffed by the C&C club taking over as we never used to have to pay for our dog and now you do and the prices went up too. Roundhill was always used by the Dog Show people showing at the local show ground during the summer (some of them would upwards of 10 dogs a pitch) I guess they may be having a rethink as to where to stay these days.

The Red Shoot Camp site is lovely and there is a pub of the same name attached to it, delicious food. Beautiful walks nearby and set in stunning countryside.

Let us know if any of you are on 'the forest' because we live about a 10 minute drive and, like kaminokid, can be found having the odd bacon sandwich somewhere. Wife grew up just down the road from the Red Shoot in Linwood, it's always been a very popular campsite

We'll be on the Forest as soon as I can get some small DIY jobs done tomorrow - not sure where to go mind so will probably end up at Setthorns as we love the wooded camping feel!

Folks is there an après camping update?
We're planning to hit 'the forest' next month. Two families with kids aged 8 - 12 and an ageing dog.
Which site to book??

I went to Roundhill the weekend of the Royal wedding, It was fantastic as I knew it would be again, even tho the site was fully booked it really wasnt crowded, we easily found a lovely spot to pitch up .

The showers where piping hot and no real queues , and the sun even shinned ! We will definitely go a few more times this summer .
