Nope, head off ... if both were replaced at the same time (5 years ago ?) then you have to decide whether to do both sides while it's down or risk doing just one ... I'm sure there's a thread in the wiki about stripping a wbxer It's the proverbial can of worms.

dont make your day worse, but if you order just that water jacket seal from JK (http://www.justkampers.com/shop/cylinde ... 10907.html) you wont have all the other gaskets you will need to do the job, far better to buy a full gasket kit......

how far are you needing to travel for this house move?
if you can keep a good eye on the coolant level and temp, and keep your revs down it will happen as like get you there, just loosen the header tank cap to keep the pressure down....... emergency get you home like procedure, not to be recommended but might get you out of the pooh type of thing.........at you own risk*........

NO chance of driving the van for the house move - and it is currently loaded - I have to get from Wiltshire to Brighton via Dorset.... hmmmph.
Looking into hiring a van as a temporary measure.

Thanks for the feedback Ian. I have been in touch with my mate who fitted the heads and will try to get the van to his garage to get the work done where it can be parked off street and there is the luxury of time.

Mocki - I was posting the link just as an example, I basically understand the process of refitting heads afetr helping on the last occasion.
Looking at my current finances I might ebay the van for a £1 and see what I get for her.
It is a lovely vehicle - original panel transporter with camping interior which has served me extremely well.
But this would be the last option.

Regarding this water leak how about trying some K seal it might fix it temp for your moving trip.Then you can work out a permanant solution later.
