I keep looking at this on ebay everytime I do a search for the elusive bed board! Agree it looks a bit nasty and most likely is something someone has made up to fit the space.

AdrianC - I am pretty confident I could make something very close to the original, but could do with seeing the fixngs that run in the grooves and how they are attached - any chance of a couple of photos?

Does anyone have a few photos of the above?

Hi Adrian - I hope you have not gone to too much trouble as I managed to get into one today, the same year as my joker.

Dimensions are as follows:

Width (left to right) = 116cm to metal edge
Depth (front to back) = 54.5cm to metal edge
Thickness of board = 1.9cm to metal edge. The board is slightly thinner, 1.9cm is top to bottom including metal.
Brackets - 4cm x 4cm plates, positioned to the outer edge of board

The brackets do not need to hold any weight, they are purely there to allow the bed board to travel in the grooves. The weight of the board/person is taken by the shelf when the board is in position. The original board could do with being thicker or have strengthening bars in it.

Looks easy enough to make.

if you need any more pictures of parts and construction, let me know as I've just started stripping the inside of the roof and bed to repair the fibre glass and treat the rust..

I must admit now I've started I'm regretting it. With the intention of repairing the fibre glass roof from the inside, has revealed some substantial rust where the roof joins the van on the inside - looks like roof off and some welding, with minimal welding skills looks like I'm entering a world of pain!!!

Sorry to hear that.

Good if you could update a few photos as you discover stuff under the roof so others are aware of what could be going on under their high tops. Was the fibreglass damaged and letting in water?

Maybe better to add photos in a new post?

Seconded. I'd love to know. The other likely causes have to be the skylights and the four screws that blank off for roofracks, surf carriers etc.

hi guys,
thread resurrection!

just went back attacking at this there the other day, I cut a board to size and took out the nasty shelves that the previous owner had fitted.
Looks like they also replaced the original hinged flap that folds up to cover the bed rails with a bigger one..
You can see in this picture what i have, the (non original?) brass latch on it does not allow the flap to fold flat on the side ledge..


I need to cut another piece to replace this the correct size. I assume the original flap only comes up to the height of the hole based on the previously posted pics..

ronburgundy, any chance of one more pic of the original westfalia flap latch in its upright position (showing the latch closed that fits in the holes that are shown in the 3rd last picture in your post above? also a measurement of the width of the original flap would be a great help..
