I might be way off here as it's been a while since I've had the instrument binnacle off but....from memory don't the fuel and temperature gauges both run through a small three pronged voltage stabilizer that is mounted on the printed circuit board. If I'm on track with this then the high voltage could have burn out this part.

My fuel gauge works though...if the overcharge caused the temperature gauge to burn out, wouldn't it have taken out the fuel gauge too?...that is if it's on the same circuit?
If the circuit has blown, how do I go about getting this fixed? And how much would this cost?
