If you join icamping car you can download more POI's for Aires than you could shake a stick at.
Obviously you don't know what they are like until you turn up (thats why the book is so good), but it has thousands.
If you didn't like what you saw there was usually another one 5 clicks away, also I don't think we found one in the Aires book that wasn't in my POI's.

Yep, it was date critical. I guess you don't get to save the £1.05 but can still get the free places the book contains .... our's arrived today

Ordered!
I wonder if you can help?
As I snore I usually sleep in a pop up tent outside the van whislt the family sleep snuggly inside.
Can I pitch my tiny tent next to the van at the Aires?

No - they're for overnight parking, not camping, which means no tents, awnings, or furniture set up next to your vehicle.

All around France you'll see all nationalities sat around outside their campers on aires, often talking 'camper' in several languages. Many are on hardstanding, corner of a supermarket carpark stylee but often they're next to a river bank or canal towpath. I've never seen a tent before and c******s are STRICTLY verboten.

I wouldn't like to risk pitching a tent next to the van at an aire anyway - the spaces can be quite close together, and people often arrive after dark, so I'd be worried about getting crushed under someone's coach-built gin palace as I slept.

If you snore that loud, and was outside next to me in a tent, I would I run you over anyway.
Seriously though, if you are going to France, you would be mad not to have the icamping car poi's on your sat nav, it's free and there are literally thousands of them......campsites, service points, municiples you name it.
When we were in France last year we would pick a place we wanted to go, and for every aire in the aires book there was probably another five nearer, maybe not so pretty but if your on route a life saver.
Dont get me wrong, the Aries book is fab for seeing what your getting before you arrive, and most of the best sites are listed, but if your caught short or need to empty your toilet or just about anything, It's a no brainer.
When it comes to travelling around a foreign country, there is no such thing as too much information.

Here's a source of co-ordinates (POIs) for Stellplätze (overnight - short term spots) in a number of countries.

Sorry Mark, I can't tell you. Mine's been forcibly removed from me unopened and wrapped up till the 19th but I'll bring it (and the F.P.2011) to the Tickling if it pleases you. It does feel about twice the weight of the 1st edition though
