Sorry for being so long in getting back to you all. I'm in the process of moving to North Yorkshire, working on a campsite
and the Campervan is currently being used as a removal van.

I can confirm that it's Pierburg carb that I have fitted. Quite clearly says Pierburg on the side.....if I knew how to post a photo, I would.

Use your photobucket account (I took forever to sort it intil I ran out of upload allocation....) Copy and paste the IMG file onto the topic reply - preview to make sure it's the correct one - and submit. Job done!

Life has to be simpler than that. I can't be bothered with all this photobucket stuff......why haven't they made it easier to post a photo onto forums? After all we have the iPhone now.......

It wouldn't make any difference as it's definitely a Pierburg carb

When replying click on the "Upload attachement" tab below where you type and enter a filename for the photo or click "Browse" to search for the picture on your computer...

you can only do that a few times shaundon photobucket is best

Here we go, the Photobucket way.....long winded but it worked.

Yup that's a 2E3. Now you need to check the codes and part numbers stamped under the "PIERBURG" logo on the side.
The tell tales are the letters VW AU (you know what they are for....) and a 251 code if mine is anything to go by.
If the numbers are different then it may well be from another vehicle and the jetting will be wrong, so the mixture will be all over the place and giving poor running, hesitation and even worse economy than you'd expect!

By the way, I'm getting anywhere between 23 and 27 mpg.

For a DG? If you're getting 27 on a run then it's right on the money. Nothing wrong, but your high idle speed must be due to an air leak - check the condition of the crankcase breather hose, going up to the plastic plenum on top of the carb for starters. Expensive to replace with the genuine article, so ofter in a poor state.
