Does anyone know where to find the complete dimensions of a 15" or even better 16" Westy Syncro? If I go with the dimensions of the 16 then it should be as close to mine as possible, maybe even a little bigger?

I'm planning on doing the same with my Westy Syncro in 2-ish years time, Canada not NZ though.

All the stories I have heard of RoRo and all that I have read, it is never seems good - although I'm sure it is fine most the time, I'll be putting belongings and loads of spares in the van / container. With RoRo you leaves your keys with the vehicle for it to be driven on and off the boat by someone else - with a van full of stuff, things are bound to go missing.

I did all my measurements and dropping back onto standard 14 "wheels, even deflating the tyres (or no tyres!) then it will fit. They also do a container called a high cube with entrance of 2.5m - but that won't be cheap!

You might lucky and be able to get someone in the military to get it sent over on a container ship??

I have a photo somewhere of my Westy 16 pop top inside a container when it got shipped across the Atlantic by the previous owner; it was one of the reasons he chose the Westy for his travel plans; it ticked all the boxes including fitting inside a container.

Just contacted shippers and they said the size is one thing but that they just don't like loading VW campers as they have had problems in the past!? I think different shippers are needed!

Cheers for the tip. I had a go at the translate but could not figure it out what the exact dimensions are. I have done various Google searches but as yet I can not find any factory standard dimensions. Any idea where I am going wrong?

Your westy should fit. Had a friend send one back from S.A in a container about a month ago.

I'd recommend getting insurance from the shipping company and from you current insurer specifically for the transit AND gap insurance.

Had a container full of antiques that went "missing in tansit" and insurance gave me peanuts despite having it all valued poperly before it left.

go for a high cube every time, should only work out 15 - 20% more expensive but will allow a margin for error. I personally wouldn't go to a shipping line direct, they are not geared up for things like this and will probably shaft you or contrive to loose your documents.... Use a freight forwarder of the ilk of Schenker or Kuehne Nagel.

Cheers for the info. As we have lots of house to take with us we would like to use the same company to move the van and house stuff, in theory this should make it easier?

Looking to get more quotes this week.

After another quote I think it may best going with a agent that specialises in shipping vehicles. Just got the chance to measure the van it is 2.2m. It should fit in a standard container. We will see.

Anyone used any shipping agents they would recommend?

Might be worth contacting Mike Plompen in Busman, I am guessing he has put a few of these things in Containers, to send to foreign parts.
I was also told that Henning in Syncro-services works in the shipping game. Maybe they could offer some practical advice/contacts
It may be worth shipping ex Holland.
