Why not lob the higher-spec cluster in?

The dash bulbs are B8.3D.

Do a search for B8.3D in either normal bulbs or LED and you should find what your'e looking for.

When I put LEDs in, the (kind of useless)clock needles will still obstruct the view of the very much necessary temp and fuel gauges. It's a SERIOUSLY flawed design in my opinion. If I had any idea where to find it and what is needed to install a higher spec cluster, I might do that, but as I'm only one week into my VW ownership I'm choosing not to complicate things too much. Removing the clock needles and taping over anything clock related will give me a nice unobstructed, annoyance free view of my essential gauges.

Thanks for the tip about the B8.3D bulbs! But what about the heater bulb? The thread on TheSamba mentioned that you needed some sort of wedge bulb and a separate bulb holder. Anyone know where one could buy these in Europe?

I am not so sure that you need the wedge.

You porbably already have on or two in there.

The led is interchangeable, so take out your old one and take it to a parts store and see what they have.
