I'll be putting these centre caps on the mefros on the Iltis soon.
Nice alternative.

Those are nice, but would they fit on a T3 (thinking of those rear hubs...)?

Don't be so lazy - make your own!
vito wheel on syncro.jpg
Although those Iltis centres do look quite good...you'd need wheels with a big ET and spacers to lose the T3 hub, those on that Iltis look like they have quite a hefty offset.

Centre caps are most recent caddy.
5x112mm.
Wheels on that Iltis are T4 steels.

Who would have thought, that 16" centre caps are going to be the next thing to go missing at carparks and campsites everywhere

Just reflecting on the tooling costs and the expected number of item sales too ... tool must have cost several €,000 to justify that item price

I suppose!

Henning in Syncro-services is doing a similar cap to suit MEFROS at about half the price,
they don't suit VW 16", the little lugs are slightly different.
....on another note its £100 for 4 Vw original metal hub caps & they have paid for that tooling years ago.

tooling wears out has to be replaced.
Manual process for pressing low quantitites, plus rejections
Chroming costs ^^
Finishing processes (buffing etc)
Opportunism on pricing creeps in, as time goes by

Ohhh, I'm all confused. I've got 16" steel mercs on my 2WD doka. Great look but the centres let it down.
Which is the best &/or cheapest set to go for?

I purposely made the centrebore of my wheel spacers oversize at around 68mm, so that there's a small shoulder on the plug-in centres that the Vito wheel covers and stops the centres creeping out or getting knocked off (in more ways than one)
Seems to work so far and I made them stupidly thick-walled at around 5-6mm so they are strong too.
There's no reason why a similar set-up of Merc steel and wheel spacer couldn't be modified to take centres made like this

Aren't these the same caps that Busschmiede offers? They don't work on my mefro rims.

More confusion, Anyone know if they work on 2WD with Mercs?
I'm guessing the 2WD front hubs are bigger than the syncro, because of the speedo dome.

Good point! I was going to put my AT's on the SA while the syncro is out of action, but my centres may not fit over the 2WD front grease cap back on the lathe for another "homer" then
