I've never had any grief changing Uj's on anything - props or halfshafts. The last set I did was years ago on my Rover P6B halfshafts (it used to drub quite badly after the auto-to-5 speed conversion) and all of the cups had just started to "Brinell".
No need to re-balance afterwards and it was good for 120 mph again! I still miss that car and the sound it made
I wonder if some of the trouble comes from yokes that have started to go out-of-round, so they never go back to zero clearance or perfect geometry? Although the old Stranglerover did destroy one of it's front prop uj's very suddenly once - in the space of a few miles it went from tickticktick to CLANKCLANKCLANK and one of the cups was beaten down to paper thickness. New UJ complete (both ends) done in the vice and all was sweet again until the VM blew up again...

While on the subject of propshafts - how about the question of orientation.

The rubber element goes front or back depending on petrol or diesel engine. OK so far, but is it because of something to do with vibrations caused by combustion process/fuel type or to do with the cylinder layout? What I am asking for is opinions on which way round it should go when the vehicle has a four inline petrol engine (Golf AGG) fitted?

thanks

I have 1 that needs balancing.. and the other needs UJ's, but the tube has a slight bend so will need a proper repair...
