If it's a panel van then it will stay as a panel van on your UK papers, if its a Kombi it will come back as minibus (or whatever they call them now).
If you plan on converting it to a camper then you need to that and provide proof of the conversion, before they will put motor caravan on your paperwork. Might be simplest to register it as it is for now, get that hurdle cleared and then apply for a change later. There's some useful info already on here about how to get the log book changed to say motor caravan. Panel vans are subject to slightly different maximum speed limits if I remeber rightly...

My van was imported from Germany just over 5 years ago. It has a fog light each side actually in the rear light units, a wire runs from the near side to the off side and is connected to the bulb holder, obviously this has been done for the UK. Hope this makes sense.
