It will include watching a dvd too i reckon
Youve had good advice,
smoke is a matter of opinion if some of the folk on here could see it running we could give you a better idea.
of course the garages want to fit a 'recon' maximises their profit for the least amount of effort irrespective of what would be best for you.

personally I'd be looking forward to a 2.1, straight swap, junk the injection system to use your carb, manifold and the rest of the ancillaries.
I've often wondered, in times of great boredom

, can a 2.1 be fitted to a van with an early water system or would the later piping need to be sourced too?

How did you get on Trucker?
Does anyone know if reconditioning does anything to help with issues caused by high (150K+) mileage (2l air cooled petrol)?
Thanks,

of course it does, problem is , when purchasing a re-con, the firm doing it advertise a particular unit for a specific price, they have to maintain a profit margin, fair enough, but what if the unit they have taken in p,ex needs more to be right than their margin allows? do they cannabilise it for stock. leave you to decide.
I have like many others rebuilt engines of all types, I could not give a price, you start to strip a motor and measure and observe as you do, anything below spec gets replaced, ground, bored whatever,
if you have a tired motor there are things which will help such as top end o/haul or top end and bores etc depends on how bad things are, trhere is no definative answer to that till you strip it.
