Just got back with my new toy. All I can say is she is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!! Not a glitch all the way 270 miles and still fresh at the end. Big thanks to my mate Rob (Westy 2WD owner) who drove my car back. Picked up canopy imported form Patrik at Tristar on way back. Shipped to Torchy in Bristol, top man and thanks for your help. Def got the bug! Will probably be pestering you all for help and advice for the next few months. Will try and get photos up soon. Want to go out over Cefn Bryn right now! Mrs doesn't understand at the minute. Will that improve?

Questions and advice come free and thats what we are here for! Bring her to an event and she'll get the message soon enough but dont go off road on your own!

I just got back from a weekend away in the westy and thought I would try the new BF Goodridge m/t's on. I actually am exited to think i will be putting the a/t's on in the morning as it was the worst driving experience I have ever had in my camper. Horrable!!!!

Yep stuck another 10 in and a new valve too, bloody horrible They are only for going on very muddy use but I tell you what after trying them and you getting those new 16" a/t's off Lee's mate I cant wait to see your opinion of them and the look on your face when they are fitted.

I am going to spray my mefros yellow first thing in the morning though

Dear All,

Hope this is the right thread to come in on . Bought my Syncro with 15" Audi A6 rims and BFG ATs which are great off road but affect torque and fuel consumption (I think) on the road. As a result I have now managed to pick up a set of original steel syncro rims (14" x 6J). I've been right through the Wiki and probably missed something but still could do with some advice. Three questions now for anyone who can help...

1) Does anyone have any suggestions about tyres suitable for these rims - I'm looking at 80% road use / 20% off road? 205R14 seems to be the right size.

2) Does anyone have experience of tubing Syncro tyres so that spare tubes can be carried and therefore increase self sufficiency on longer trips? I do a lot of classic trials and so have bead breaker, Viar compressor etc - just thinking about effect on tyre rotation etc.

3) Final question partly stems from seeing Jed's new yellow rims (or are they gold?!). The steels that I have just found are pretty rusty but were originally a semi gloss black judging by the paint thats left on them. I am thinking of blasting and powder coating for longevity. Black was obviously an original colour - were there any others? I'm not going to be messing around with hub caps so colour is a bit important.

I think you will struggle to get a 14" off road tyre, but I have been known to be wrong before.

You are right to suggest that the BFG A/T's are hurting the fuel consumption but I think you made a mistake gettin a set of 14" rims. You will struggle to get any decent tyre in 14" that will have the correct rating. Why do you think we are all changing to 15"?
Dump the 14" rims, get a set of Merc 'C class' rims or Mefros and get a decent M&S tyre from BFG.

I see what you are saying - but why did VW do Syncros with 14" rims? Was it that there used to be decent off road 14" rubber?
