argh, yes, but my starting battery is in that void on the N/S so i had to use the o/s .....and the ebbers on the o/s too......

I have a 5ltr jerry can above the spare wheel which is accessed for filling by removing the front grill (Aircooled). Only have to fill it once in a blue moon.

I mentioned earlier that I have a rather crusty looking B3L petrol eber in a box.

Are spares harder to come by for petrol ebbers as I am sure I read they have not been made for quite a while (I know brickwerks sell the glowplug) and can the diesel ebber timers/thermostat controllers be used with it?

I wish there was someone local(ish) who knew their way around ebbers who could check it over (hint hint )

Plus did I read correctly somewhere on the forum that petrol ebbers are more dangerous?

you may have read my personal opinion about petrol ebbers, i dont think they are as safe at the age they are now, IMO.

as far as i know the timers and switchgear is interchangeable, as long as it for the same model the fuel type shouldnt affect it.

not sure who would lookk at your BL , i dont know anyone who has played about with them.... let along anyone local to you... LUCUS centres used to be ebberspacher agents, not sure if thats true any more?

Over here the burning chamber of ebbers has a life of 10 years.
Eberspächer's response when asked what to do after 10 years - After this it must be replaced.

They suffer from internal corrosion and there is a danger that the dividing wall between the burning chamber and the heat exchange chamber is no longer sealed therefore allowing combustion gases into the heat exchange area - which is definitely not want you want unless you want to wake up dead.

That's why I'm more inclined to sell it and invest in a more up to date diesel ebber/or propex.

Less hassle in the long run

my old propex is 24 years old works great and is still in good nick so say propex service team.

Propex may roughly be 2.5 times more costly to run (my rough calculation based on cost of diesel and 3.9kg propane tank) but I too like the idea of hassle free heating without the need for expensive spares

Tbh at the moment we are not going to be bashing the brains out of a heater because in the winter we'd only be camping two nights at a time because I generally have no work leave left by then for any longer stays. It just means we can use the van more comfortably between december and february

Run it off a gaslow refilable 6kg bottle and I be it aint far off the same cost to run it !! I cant see the piont of having petrol for the engine, gas for cooking and fridge and then derv for the heater!

Petrol. Who has the money to burn on that?

when you have a scooby lump that will do 32mpg and its the best part of £2k to convert it to gas it aint worth it !

We went to the spot you recommended. The local youths were there in their cars get stoned but were no bother and left quietly once they had polished off all their crisps and snacky bits. View in the morning were really nice. Thanks for that.
