Nothing blocking the flue. I had another look today and there is no other source of draft behind the fridge. So I am still baffled.

The flame looks big, healthy and blue but when we were camping and a big gust of wind blowed you could hear it hitting the flame and pushing it to one side, eventually a bigger gust would come and blow it out.

Our fridge gas blows out in strong wind as well, especially if it's gusting wind

Nowt you can do about it I reckon other than try to park where there's a bit of shelter or windbreak, but as you've said, even this doesn't always help. Our fridge works fine at all other times and we only have problems when the wind really gets up.

Happened to us twice this year. Once near Lindisfarne and the other this weekend in the Yorkshire Dales. Both times the wind was strong enough to rock the van a little or near enough. In Lindisfarne was parked with the flue away from the wind then the damn thing changed direction in the night

Just in case it is the thermocouple where can I get a new one as an internet search shows they are obsolete

What length will I need as I've just put the darn fridge back.....again

dunno but anything too long will coil up and wont effect its performance

Yesterday I turned the vent round through 90 degrees so it was like T3PO's (garage.php?mode=view_image&image_id=3246)

So this morning I lit the fridge and drove 8 miles to to work with it on gas. The gas was still lit when I got to work and I had been doing 40mph most of the way with about a 1.5 miles at 60mph.

When you're driving the 'wind' is blowing along the side not against it so I wouldn't bank on it being a cure (yet). Do try it though - y'never know..............

This problem does rather intrigue me; neither of my campers have had this problem and I was even parked up on a beach in Ireland in gale force winds with the vents facing windward and the fridge stayed lit

Just for the statistics = mine does it if the wind is high.

And I only once drove off with it lit and a mile later it went off with a loud POP that made me jump, so not recommended to do that !

Tbh in the Dales the wind was blowing more or less along side the van. the wind was coming in the holes on the vent cover......i assume

STILL getting the gas blown out in blustery weather.

Would swapping to the old stylee vent like the one below be any better? There seems less gaps for the wind to get in when compared the the newer style plastic vent

I've got the old style fridge vent cheap from someone at work it looks like this picture from ebay



I take it the little black rubber square is to stop the wind from going down the pipe?

If so and it's a rather windy day and it's closed more than it's open whats to stop it blocking the exhaust gases altogether?

Also what's the square plate (2nd down in centre) for? I assumed it went between the vent cover and the bodywork but it will only slide so far along the vent pipe leaving a 20mm gap between it and the outer cover

What do you have fitting wise immediately on top of the fridge,

The lazy-t on the right in the image above with an exhaust pipe running to the right to a new style electrolux outer vent, the one with the perforated white plastic cap.

Inside the exhaust chamber on the fridge is the twisted strip of metal on a wire.
