Highly likely although to be honest its not that hard to dril out a plain one and file the hole square - have done that many times on bugs.

ok so how do you get the grease cap off
have tried to turn it (Aircooled 1980) as it looks like it has a thread to it and have tried to prize it off also but maybe im just being weak lol
any help greatfully received please

It just prises off but is a tight fit. Just work a screwdriver under the lip and gradually lever it off bit by bit working your way round the cap

Some can be SO stubborn you have to use a cold chisel with the blade partly under the cap and it resting on a wheel nut and using a lump hammer to lever the cap off.

They are 100% obsolete from VW UK. The one without the hole was made obsolete a couple of years ago and was superceded by the one with the hole 251 407 691A. This was made obsolete without supersession earlier this year

Im sure thats how I got um off last time on the very van Katies on about! they were greased and knocked back on so shouldnt be to bad!

I found a claw hammer fits a treat. Claw under the lip, and use the studs as a lever point.

I use a mini pry bar (actually and old Triumph Dolomite hubcap tool) about 9" long. Works the same as a claw hammer, but feels like you're doing the job properly
Works a treat, unlike clubbing it to death (which isn't good for the bearings either)...
