Hi, this is often debated , personally I do, though I use 12v on long runs once the fridge is cold, however as I only have the small alt' if its night and heater etc running then I would use the gas to help my batteries charge .
Mike, Oh and I do welding repairs too and have done for 40yrs! :ok

Some fridges are self-igniting and have a flame-out sensor, it depends which model of fridge you have. It's been proved to be hazardous if you fill up with petrol with the fridge on though !!

The actual risk is liquid gas getting into the regulator as it swills around under driving conditions and then through to the burner jet where instead of getting a little blue flame you could get a large yellow flame thrower type of effort. This is the same effect seen in parafin or petrol stoves when you pump them before the burner is preheated. In my opinion this is a significant hazard. Considering the simplicity of a relay interlocked feed to the fridge so as only to power the fridge while the alternator is running I think this is a no brainer. Unless of course the gas equipment suppliers would underwrite the practice.
Cheers

Youd have to do more than bump around for this to be even a remote possibility, and you can briefly show the regulator a liquid medium and unless your flowing ltr's/min as opposed to gm's/hr there will be no yellow flamethrower.

I would never endorse the above product! I think refilling your empty propane cylinder for about 6 quid is very bad!
