Therefore, the question remains, is there any difference with regards to rigidity between pop-top and hi-top?
No, none because the A, B, C and D pillars are all in place with their respective roll bars and gutter bars.. the hole for High top use is usualy between the B and C pillar, as is the pop top though Devon and Diamond RV use another smaller hole, for entry to the top when the bed is down.
fiber glass will offer nothing to the vans intrinsic strength.
The only high top to remove the C pillar roll bar, are Westfailure high tops, it is
replaced with their own version that runs over the roof.

I really like the viking pop top as it sleeps most of the waltons, but i have a high top, cant remember what its called but its the big high top, Im sure most people know what i mean by that, The great think about the high top, even when your not camping you have a huge area where you can put stuff, I recently had to empty my Mothers loft for her and if i didnt have the high top i wouldnt have got everything in the van.
I would love a pop top i think they look better, or even a tin top cos they look the best imho, but i love the practical side of having the high top.
but there all cool right !!

I'm happy with my Westy Pop Top that I use as my daily runner as well. I don't think I could manage with a high top in these circumstances although I am jealous of the extra storage they offer.
I'm sure there are really resourceful people on here that will tell you otherwise, but every time this topic comes up I can't help thinking that it would be loads easier and probably cheaeper to sell your van and buy the one you really want and need rather than cut lots of new holes in the roof. That's probably not what you want to hear though.
