Just to confirm it's not the clutch, you should have about 20mm of free play at the clutch pedal. Use the adjuster at the engine end of the clutch cable to get this about right.
If your biting point needs to come up a bit (sounds like it may), then turn the adjuster clockwise a few turns. Check pedal free play again and hopefully it will be ok.

HI again....

Cant seem to find any photos in the wiki...can you point me in the direction of where the clutch cable adjuster is?

FYI...found some more info, had a look through under the left rear wheel arch...saw the clutch cable + wing nut....lay underneath the van, gave it a few turns anti clockwise (as i was underneath looking up)...and the clutch has tightened up nicely, and she pops into 1st and 2nd gear properly now.

Thanks for the tips guys, it eventually pointed me in the right direction......for such a newbie, it feels great to fix the simple things :-)

:) Hi, you may also want to check where the outer cable is held at the front where it goes through the panel , early ones would start to pull through ,
I've had a search on wiki and could not find the details of this procedure , maybe someone could add this if not there already
