I agree - keep to the West coast area - it's far better than the East coast.

Hi if you are doing your trip after May you should buy some avon skin so soft the spray one it is quite good for keeping the midges from biting.If you are doing the west coast may i suggest you take at least one night at Applecross there is a very steep hill to climb but it will be well worth it garanteed.The campsite is quite basic but clean and a trip to the local hotel is a must the food is great but it does get very busy and it is first come first served.If you need any advive give me a shout as i stay in Inverness and i work all over the north west of Scotland.In Inverness there are only two campsites in the city and one on the outskirts whitch is a cc site you should give me a shout if you stay at one of the sites in Inverness as they are only a ten minute walk from my house and i would be more than happy to help with any advice needed

OK will do. Here on the map highlighted in pink the route I am going to take! Start in Glasgow and finish in Edinburgh. I am adding places to the route all the time, hence the yellow is the places I am also going to visit off route.

I nitice you are thinking of going to mallaig some really nice sites round there right on the beaches.In stead of going back the same road why don't you catch the ferry from mallaig over to skye then you can cross the bridge over to kyle from there Lochcarron is only about 30 miles.Once you are in Lochcarron you can go over to Applecross as suggested and take the coast road round to Sheildaig it may only put an extra hour onto your journey but it will be well worth it.At Gairloch there is a lovely campsite 3 miles out called the sands we go there a lot.Up round Durness it can be very windy,you have to stop and have a look at smoo cave.

That's a belting trip you've got planned there Kev.

I live in Aberdeen and drive that area regualrly, so my pennies worth would be to avoid the A9 route from Aviemore down to Perth unless you're in a rush. There aint a huge amount to see, it's just a fast road full of caravans. Instead, take the A938 across to Grantown on Spey and then the 939 via Tomintoul across the Lecht (ski centre) to Ballater (that road is stunning). From there head West on the A93 to Braemar then South across Glenshee (another ski centre) to Perth. Then you've cracked the highlands!

strongly recommend you start your trip with a stay at the red squirrel in glencoe as mentioned earlier, we normally plan to do a day there and end up doing three, just to get in the mood

We stayed in Red Squirrel on Sunday night - a short sunday run to Loch Lomond turned into a full on explore and went too far to come home! one of the bonuses of having a bus is even when not planning it, you still have all the basics of a night away! - great little site, NO caravans(none of these modern things like hook ups), and lots of friendly campers

And the beach at Durness is the best in the whole wide world!!!! And Balnakeil Craft Village (at Durness) you'll have to stop at for some lunch and culture
