Seen a few like that, yes, usually stainless.
I normally spot it at dusk while outside bleeding the cooling system after another WBX has spat it's dummy out and dumped another system full of coolant on the road.
First time I saw it I sh!t my pants, checked timing, mixture etc, all bob on, calmed down after that.

The picture I posted is of a mega-squirt system, with a water to air intercooler. It was on the samba a few years ago.
