Correct.

But I'm not about to convert it to LHD...

If i were you ide convert it (properly) to LHD and take it with.
You will be giving up probably the best tri-star in existance for a give away price.

is it illegal to have a right hooker in the states ? If not surely it would be cool to be different and once there could fetch the go westy price it deserves
it's too rare to convert to lhd imho
is it on samba ?
is it on SA syncro forum ?

You will never get that price in SA for it.
As far as i am aware it is illegal to permanently import a RHD into the States.
Rare or not you need to consider whot will you replace it with especially for that price.
Converting means you can take your very special vehicle with and reap the benefits from your investment.

Well, the thing is, I'm staying in the UK. It was when we decided to stay that I halted the sale last time around. The sale is caused by my no longer being under the wing of my big fat american company. Now that we're flying on our own we're needing to downsize. I'll soon be posting a motorcycle or two, my other family car (an A2), and about 20 other odds and ends we can no longer justify. It's sort of like going off the bottle. It's not a fire sale or anything, and if it does not hit the reserve, then it won't sell. And your right Russel, it is a super nice T25. I had a guy come to see it who after several days of consideration decided it was too nice and he felt he would not be able to use it. I feel the same way, but I use it anyway. (I just park really far away from everyone else...) (And it's not been off road since I've had it, which is a bit daft all things considered.)

So that's the situation. Oh, and I believe it could be legally imported with no problem to the USA. I looked into it and it all looked good to me due to it's age.

Thanks,

robert

Rent it out; sure people would love to borrow it for a weekend; come to that it would make a really weird wedding car :?: :| You could take the vindic off; fill the back with confetti ...... :run

No seriously; since McGill drove mine back off to Scotland there has been a big gap in my life; I did a bit of off road in mine when i had it and it just felt wrong; I winced at every bramble that strayed too close!

Hope it goes to a good home; but if you still have it at the end of April get it over to the Syncro 25 year event in Germany; might even be able to raise its profile and get more interest ?

mark,OUR beloved tristar has gone to a guy in glasgow who is using it to travel up and down to arisaig on the west coast at weekends. he is almost retired and is building 2 houses, one to sell and one to retire to. i only sold it to him if he promised not to use it as a builders van! he promises me its just to take friends and the odd bit of timber up with him at the weekends to work. i had the arches and inner sills sorted out and repainted, polished it up real nice, powder coated a set of 6" 14 rims with BFGs on them. ply lined the load bed and gave the wood many coats of of woodseal varnish and fitted a roll bar to save the roof! he did look at roberts white one but it was too nice,he almost thought mine was too nice but thought of the long term investment for himself as he says he will have it fully restored when the houses are finished and he retires! he had bay dokas when he was younger and loved them, and loves the tristar more! if i get my finger out my a**e ,i have the option of a one owner RHD tristar in white! cheers mcgill

That is probably a good idea! Enter it for the most 'original syncro' competition

Is it on E Bay Germany?

My understanding is about 12 are known, including one that was converted to lhd, and one that went to New Zealand.

My auction ended without hitting the reserve, oh well. I'm going to place an Ebay classified ad and let it ride for a while. I'm not in a rush yet. I'm also still enjoying driving it.

Cheers,

Robert
