When I finished converting my van to a camper about a year ago the DVLA inspected my camper to check that it had running water, sink, the minimum amount of cupboards, a bed ,windows and table...... :?
They issued a tax disk and changed the log book over and the damb thing refused to start in the car park.... but its ok now :ok

If I had a panel van with a camping interior and insured it as a van would it invalidate my insurance?

Im having trouble finding someone to insure me on a van with a self installed camping interior.

In general it's people who throw matresses in the back of their company van and try to insure it as a (cheaper) camper that are the problem, not the other way round.

have a look at the Self Build Motor Caravan Club http://www.sbmcc.co.uk web site. We often get insurance questions although our 2 main brokers (Adrian Flux & Shield) do have the minimum spec I suggested on the first page. Have a look back and you will find lots of threads about insurance, there might be a suitable suggestion in there for you.

Dave

Who did you insure with?
Currently I'm supposed to have a 6ft bed, but I don't want to keep it in the van all the time, will be looking for a less fussy insurer next time

thanks

If I'm the Dave you're asking I'm with Norwich Union and am just insured as a T25 camper. I want to change as I'm not convinced they knew what they were doing when I took the policy out. It's been OK so far but I wouldn't want to make a claim. I'm going to see what SAGA can do this year.
