Having a few snags with my carb and a fuel injection system off a 2.1 has appeared on ebay.....

thanks

People bin the injection to run 2.1 with 1.9 carb. It's a less complicated yet vastly more powerfull alternative but retains the 1.9 carb lpg systems. :ok

Win win every time.

so a 2.1 with carb has a lot more power than a 2.1 with an injection system.i didnt know that ian.how much more power does it produce.i might go down the carb route in that case.

yet vastly more powerfull alternative

I think the power is moved down the range ROB I'm told the Carb versions tend to give it more at the lower rev range.
I certainly have noticed this.
But then I've gone from a 1.9 so any thing remotely more powerful than my old 1.9 would have been better.
would be nice to read a more definitive answer

Just get it on LPG :ok

The carb doesn't have to be in any sort of good nick then. Mine doesn't run too good on Petrol but is just fine on LPG.
I only use it on petrol when the LPG runs out, to get me to the LPG station !

OK, that may not have come across as intended ...

Compared to a 1.9DG a 2.1DJ is a much more powerfull alternative, and when fitting a 2.1 lump into a 1.9 van people often ditch the injection system and retain the DG carb, inlet manifold (and lpg system) as this is simpler and more reliable and swaps straight over.

Ian :ok

should the carb not be rejetted for the increased cylinder capacity?

Nope, all the peeps I know of that have done this haven't and years later they're still fine.

i would bet theres a little bit of bhp to be had with a up in jetting tho!!

I don't know, mine was swapped when the old DG had 'issues' which called for it's removal ... and once you've had a DJ it's hard to go back

It's an interesting question that Jason :ok
As it's a long stroke engine the power from these is generally lower down the range, I would guess that the jetting (albeit redundant with LPG) would remain the same due to the engine pulling air/fuel mixture in for longer rather than a higher volume for a shorter stroke

I often wonder what BHP is available on carb and where the torque is on the rev range.
I may well endeavour to rolling road it one day... for now as Ian says I'd never go back and am just enjoying the ..er ...umph :D

isn't fuel injection about emissions ultimately..as you never see a top fuel dragster on injection do you?

Any easy ways to see which engine mine has?

1.9 60 PS is the DF which has the Pict carburettor
1.9 78 PS is the DG which has the Pierburg 2E3 carb.

This is a pic of it:

when i jetted my dells on the rolling road the last tweak on jet sizes gave me 5bhp and more rolling torque on an already sweet motor........

fi is there for efficiency to up the power on my 2.1 i would fit a pair of 40s or 44s

i reckon theres more power and efficiency to be had from jetting your carb :ok

That's not a Pierburg.

1.9 ?? PS is the DH which has injection (rare in this country)
2.1 112 PS is the DJ which came with injection but can be run with the Pierburg carb. as Kev say's.

Ian.

So if i just changed the carb on my DF for a pierburg 2E3 carb wud that give me 18 extra horses ?
