I've no experience of df engine, is it the same set-up as the early dg cooling system i.e. a metal t'stat housing which is bolted onto the side of the water pump?

Heres a few things to rule out as faulty thermostats dont affect heater matrix's...
(Are you getting heat at the radiator? normally if a stat is faulty then the rad is stone cold all the time)
Have you proved that the heater matrix is not airlocked? remember this is the highest point in the system and even if you flushed it as per the Haynes method after a week or so of use and 'settling' it could be possible air has gathered there.
Could the heater matrix be blocked? I have seen this before on other vehicles!
Could the control valve for the heater matrix be stuck shut or the or cable to control it broken/have an issue?

The actual main radiator i haven't checked tbh but i will when i get back from work tomorrow
Fairly sure its not an airlock issue as i have used the heater since the flush at the begining of the winter
As for the matrix being blocked, when i done the flush the heater was set to hot to open up the whole system, i also kept clean cold water going through the system until it ran clear, i then blew down the individual hoses until clear clean water was coming out of both rad hoses and out of the engine block
The control valve has the right amount of resistance on it to suggest that its working as it should, but the two feed and return matrix pipes that are behind the removable centre panel in the cab are both stone cold which is why i believe that hot water is not even being allowed to get to the matrix.
Thanx for the input tho buddy its defo given me a couple of areas to check prior to surgery

The other thing to try is when it's all warm have a grovel under the van and look for kinks in the pipes and also have a feel and see how far along they are warm - going back to a blocked matrix possibility if you find one pipe is warm upto a fitting/valve/matrix etc then it can help to pin point the issue.... bear in mind though that if there is no flow at all then both heater pipes will be cold as of a foot or so from the engine

Ok guys we may be getting some where now, upon my return from work today i whipped off the centre plastic panel in the cab to feel if the matrix pipes were hot which they weren't whilst the panel was off i played about with the hot / cold lever on the heater controls and i notice that the whole cable was moving in and out through the big rubber grommet which the heater pipes also run through i thing the inner may be seized or the outer cable retainer has come undone as when i held the outer cable with my hand and forced ( gently of course ) the hot / cold lever to the hot position heat started to come out of the top vent

, i haven't looked further into it as of yet as i need a lill nap before i go out for the works chrimbo party tonight.
Any of you guys had this issue, is it easier to take out the big gromet or get to the cable from under the van, does it need a new cable ?
You guys have been great so far thanx once again to you all for all the imput

Darn I'm good hehehe
I haven't changed one of these but can remember they are not too hard to do - the one bit I can't recall is if you need to drop the fuel tank as the valve is in that area (I don't think you do but....)
It's worth checking that the cable clamp has not come undone either in the dash (behind where you move the hot/cold slider) or near the valve (under bus area) as this is a common thing.
One other thing to keep an eye out for when doing this is if the inner is kinked anywhere especially up at the dashboard end as again these are notorious for kinking - when you move the leaver all you do is bend the inner then straighten it out again!
