no 1 on the diagram

the long thin pipe that goes round the engine bay

early ones are metal , later are plastic

basically when running the engine all the link pipes from the engine apart from the one from the thermostat housing should get warm

the thermostat one should only get warm when the bleed valve is open.

and yes the plastic ones become blocked !

if any one or all arent getting warm its worth pullinghvthem all off and checking the rubber and meatla/plastic pipe for blockages( you should be able to blow through all the ends)

what tends to happen is they become blocked over years, and as long as there is no air in the system the engine will run ok , BUT as soon as you get air via a leak or coolant change ect they can prevent the cooling system from being bleed properly!

also when the engine is cold suck on the darlek(blue) expansion tank cap whilst its fitted to the bottle, you should NOT be able to pass air in or out
if this cap is not sealing then the cooling system will not pressurise and bleeding will not be possible!

its also possible to reverse the pipe to the matrix , this may help it there is a blockage and its not turned solid!

i would personally remove the spare wheel , look behind the radiator and check the hot/cold valve is moving its full amount!
