Is the correct miniature bulb no longer availlable from VW? Ring your local VW agents first is my advice if you want a definite 'no mods fix' or take the bulb to your local Car Accessory/Parts shop and see if they have something similar.
The one you have linked to is a blue filament bulb so worth a try at that price as long as P&P isn't ridiculous. If its too long (the body) you could remove the blue insert. I note its rated at 65ma so it will be less bright anyway given that there is already a 100 ohm resistor in series with the main beam bulb.

mines an 81 westy with a yellow main bulb. Does anyone know if I can swap this for a blue one as per these posts and is it the same or like everything else on the van totally different!! ta.
