Did mine a while back and I need to revisit what I did because I checked the voltage at the headlights the other night with the engine running and I'm only getting 11.5v

How much are heat guns for heat shrinking? And what's the maximum rated dipped bulb you can use legally?

can i assume these mods are being done because you have a prob with original light circuits
asking this because i now have(again) probs with lights

Thanks for all the help guys, I had lots of variations on a theme and finally used one that Rich Newton sent me which incidently is the one that James has posted. I found this the easiest, most sensible and the diagram easiest to follow.

Like a dumbass I connected the power wires for the relays to unused (ignition live only) tabs by the horn wire on my early fusebox instead of the unused tab next to the big fat red wire that feeds the fusebox. DOH!

E D I T: After looking at my setup I am wondering if I have the right fuse size. I bought 30 amp relays with built in 30amp fuses one for the dipped and one for the high beam (similar to THESE in this picture). Should I replace the 30amp fuses with a smaller fuse size or is 30amp OK? ....oh yes and the wire I used was maplin 30amp high current wire XR59P

I used 16 amp fuses as I couldnt find any Kit Kat wrappers to roll up

Interestingly and forgive me if I've missed something here but know one has mentioned wether this is a four or two lamp setup. I notice some of the posters definately have 4 lamps and if they are like mine with a twin ellement H4 in the outer and single ellement in the inners, four 60watt bulbs are lit on full beam and just two on dip (might be different for other setups). That is 20amp draw on main beam, 10 on dip (unless I am getting entirely confused by which bulbs light on full beam). This is why I mentioned a heavier relay for full beam, although 30amp would do I would prefer to see a 40.

Am I right in assuming that the live feed from the fusebox is NOT fused and inline fuses need to be used? The samba article does not mention installing fuses

There was 2 unused fuse holders in my fuse block so I used link wires to make those fuse terminals permanent live and connected the relays to the "other" side of the fuse box using 16 amp fuses in between so in effect have in line fuses.

Back in the distant past (the days when radios had valve in and chips came with fish) we had some lengths of 6" nail known as noblows for fault finding.
Stick the noblows in and wait for the smoke, where there was smoke there was a problem.
