Not locked up recently have you? flat spot on the tyre maybe? happened to a mate after he went sideways in his Sprinter on the M6, big flat spot but only on 1 tyre. At low speed made a clunking noise but not as speed increased.

Maybe worth rotating the wheels

could be a diff or bearing in diff.....diff wont make a noise under load but on deceleration as the load on the pinion and carrier changes it can whine or judder or clonk......have a look at the oil in the box this will clue you up to condition, is the oil low?

Well.....don't know if its related but this morning took three resonably heavy loads to the tip and no noise - not a peep. Figure that.

I really feel for you as i know exactly what you are going through, I have the same sort of problem a noise coming from what appears to be the driverside rear wheel area. my noise is intermitant from a squeak to full on metal rubbing and clonking.

i have had my t25 in to a garage 6 times now and they cannot find the problem but suggest it is not detremental to the running, WOW he would not say this if he heard it at its worst!!!!!!
i am now at my witts end , i have no hair left and i am on the point of a nervous exhaustion awaking at night hearing the friggin noise.

Lol - no guarantee the noise will be traced.

Other ideas i've come up with (particularly after it disappearing when it was laden down) is that perhaps one shock has a weak area - ie during a certain part of its travel it has free movement and i've just not picked it up. That would cause a loose-sounding clonk I'm sure. What has occured to me is that when I rebuilt my kitchen recently, I took out a massively heavy rear storage area on that side and just got rid of it. It was only after that the noise seemed to start so perhaps it is a shock and the weight reduction has now moved the shocks normal ride/travel position.

When I'm slowing down (ie just taking foot off in traffic or around town), all the weight tends to be taken off the rear, the shock rises, and maybe its at that point it hits a crap area in a shock absorber. I'll try to put shock replacement on my list of jobs to do when the money is there, Both rear ones SEEMED ok when removed and no leaks, but it may be very different in situ. For sure with it full of the contents of my neighbours shed, there wasn't a peep out of it.

Additionally (and no idea if its related either), my springs are extraordinarily high - everyone remarks at the gap between top of tyre and arch. Its a caravelle so had all the seats in originally so presumed it had high springs to allow for the weight of 7 passengers. A bonus when loaded up and actually I like the height (not into lowering) but perhaps after years of carrying a certain weight, removing that weight has upset it.

In fact, that logic would seem a real possibility now I've read it back...

This might appear to be a bizzare question but does your noise reduce when its raining?
My noise was at it worst last night even when reversing out of my drive the sound was a (somethings falling off sound)
this morning driving to work the noise was still there but slightly less!!!!!!!!

When driving home from work this evening the sound was much less and it was raining, as i had never realised this before. i decided to run the van for a longer period, 20 miles plus and still less of a noise.

Can this problem really be related to the weather or is this a quiet blip or have i completly lost the plot?

t25 booked into a different garage for investigation tommorow (fingers crossed)

Sure yours isn't a wheel bearing? No, rain doesn't affect mine.

Went to tip again today (two big heavy armchairs inside plus assorted plant pots, books, bits of wood etc). Bloke on gate has just bought a T4 (Hello Frank!) and gave me a fascinating insight into what happens to all the rubbish after folk drop it in the big containers. Much of it is burnt and provides so much electricity to national grid, its costs vitually nothing to run the site - amazing

Again no noises all the way there - ditch armchairs and noise was back. Seems an odd one but gotta be suspension somewhere me thinks....

my van has just passed MOT so i would have thought a bearing issue would have been picked up?

i have looked at the play in the OSR bearing and it appears that there is very little play side to side also this was adjusted by the first garage that i visited with this problem and there is no whine from the bearing however do you think it is possible that it could be dry ?

after yeterdays visit to the garage the mechanic suggested that the OSR drum was distorted!!!!!!!
both rear drums have now been replaced ( noise still there )

i need to scratch me head now and try and muster some enthusiasm for my next plan!

Rear wheel bearings can not be adjusted only replaced and correct torque for the castallation nut tightened.Reading this forum with interest as i replaced the rear wheel bearings and took apart the CVs inspected refiited due to a grinding noise.It didnt make any diffrence on inspection on the gearbox mount the metal elastic bonding was breaking away .I replaced the mounting and the noise dissapeared.

Well thats mine. Old but no play in it. Noise on mine shuts up when theres plenty of weight on the back. Chickenkoop thinks my bus sits up incredibly high on the back but since theres no adjustment save for lower springs, its not exactly a fault.

I think i have eventually found and cured my squeak come metal rub come metal grind clonking noise.
something that Camper had recently mentioned about the wheel bearings not being adjustable and that the castle nut should be very very tight.
this got me thinking , anyway i decided to see if i could tighten this castle nut up and hey presto 2 rooks round on the nut and back in with the pin and no noise

my worry now is if i will see any other issues due to this problem as the heat generated was enough to distort the drum!

once again thanks to Camper and all who responded to this original post by Covkid because i have been watching with anticipation and picking up on lots of good advice which helped to diagnose my problem.
