I know of one guy that died but I can't remember the exact details. It was quite a few years ago. May have been he put the cooker on whilst drunk before bed to get warm and fell asleep. As I said though I can't remember the exact details. I always leave a window open slightly and the vent in the roof.

CO killed him, not CO2. Remember, CO is the bad stuff from a fire. CO is what we breath out, and don't know of anyone who had died from breathing bad breath.

Point taken,
CO detector needs to be mounted properly to detect what you are breathing, but most are more then sensitive enough.

We always crack front windows and roof vent, but it's to try keeping condensation down, and remove swampgas not for extra oxygen.

I was saying that going to bed with a gas heater on and the windows closed was a really bad idea as you could die of CO poisoning. I am not sure where your reference to CO2 comes in.

I forgot to mention gas powered fridges. They are also a further source of CO. They should be vented through the side of the van. It is worth checking this out as these vents can get blocked by spiders or whatever. Another reason to sleep with the van ventilated.

Agree, fridges are the biggest threat of CO we have in our vans.

Agree, fridges are the biggest threat of CO we have in our vans.

I think he must have made a slip there. If you had a CO2 alarm it would be going off every time you breathed.

And reason i posted the difference between the two.
