If the res. is empty you need to find out were it has gone ! look for worn brake pads, leaking pipes!!!

maybe empty is a bit dramatic. Definately below the minimum level for sure.

Brakes seemed fine on run home from Norfolk last week.....

Haven't spotted any leaks and I check underneath regularly.

Hi Sarah also check behind the pedals around the Master cylinder (metal cylinder with pipes comming of it) as these can weep as they get older. :ok

from underneath?

The guy who fitted the clutch said the pipes were a bit damp and they'd need replacing over winter.

Just take the Dot4 fluid with you and top up as necessary. because the clutch is hydraulic it uses the same reservoir as the brakes, so any slight leak with the clutch pipes will effect the reservoir levels to.Quite common as our vans get older. Don't panic. :ok Mark

Get under the van , have a look at the rear brakes ,check for damp or wetness , then check the clutch pipes , on the side of the gear box , then look at the front brake , flexi hoses ,calipers , lines etc .

:ok
