weldore wrote:well its unlikely but possible that all the glow plugs have burnt out...might have been starting up for a while on the strength of one working..so to see if all are ferked test the continuity from the rail to the engine..dunno what the resistance should be but as long as you get resistance at least one is working ,put the negetive on the battery neg to get a good contact and the pos on the rail with the conector removed..then check the pipe from the filter to the pump for splits that may draw air into the pump too

I tested the resistance on the glow plugs, and there was indeed resistance there. So i did up the connector again, and out of desperation more than anything, i sprayed a load of easy start down the air intakes, turned the key, and vrooooooooom, along with a load of black smoke which seemed to pi$$ off my neighbour who was hanging about at the time

Ho hum. But i couldn't find an identifiable engine code - i'll post what i did find later, but i am quite certain that whilst it's a VW engine, it's not a standard T25 1600....

The plugs do seem to be warming up a lot quicker now, whick nakes me suspect that the connector was a bit sus....

is it working without the easy start.....and yes pepes your engine is beautiful and ours are oily and rugged and noisey and i dont know why i got one

I'm letting her cool down Wellie, then i'll try her again and let you know.

As for the diesel engine, i'm having a moment with them. As a biker, petrol works for me. Petrol = speed and performance, and you cabn use it to clean oil off your hands. But i have a thing for big powerful labouring diesels too, it's a train thing i think. I've probably answered my own question there - my 1600cc is neither big nor powerful
