Cheap cheap cheap.......... if you cant afford the £10 for the manual that will help you understand and maintain your van, then I am afraid you have bought the wrong vehicle...
MPG... if its doing 17 around town and 25 on a run... it aint gonna get any better... a bloody good service and set up will get you to those numbers if it is doing less at the mo....

i am doing about 20p a mile and that's with mixed motorway and city.

Well... thats 22.7mpg......... by my reckoning... which is good........ if its accurate...
But only way to know what is really doing is fill it, drive it and fill it again... record the litres and miles... several times...
