Thanks all again. I may well give you a ring if that's Ok? I'd be happy to drive over andpick uo the ECU if possible?
I tested the AFM last night and am getting good reading on two of the test but the one that tests the temp sensor seems to read wrongly so it could be that the problem lies there.
Also I read on hear that you can by pass the Idle Speed control valve. so I tried this and the motor ticked over, all be it a little lumpy. The moment I reconnected it it refused to start, well fired and died (old symptoms). Do you think I;m looking at both the AFM and the ISCV? (the ISCV does vibrate as it's supposed to and has the correct resistance)
I'll also go and see Steve at lunch time he''s only around the corner from where I work.
Fingers crossed...

The ISU control unit is either behind the r/h tail-light or on the l/h engine bay flitch panel. If the former, it could well be wet in there and connections corroded, or even failed - worth popping the tail-light out and take a look?

Idle stabilisation unit and idle control valve are 2 different things...
Valve.. (on manifold) take off and clean out with carb/brake cleaner...
Control unit.. (mounted on left wall...usually) should have 2 plugs on it that will connect together... (I thought only airccoleds had the idle stab unit)
Distance diagnosing is very difficult....
Steve is your best bet....
