in ours we have a swivel buddy seat and as im 6ft4 i find it easier to swivel the buddy seat around recline the back down and then place me pillows on top of the back edge...which in turn stops the pillows falling on the floor.
so when a get in and lay down i now have plenty of room with out resting me feet against the tailgate..... :ok sorted

and our rear cupboard is slightly wider than most ..so if we sleep the other way around with our feet towards the front we havent got a lot of shoulder room, so we end squashed but with loadsa leg room..so not much of a contest really...

last year we slept with our head to the tailgate, just felt natural, with our baby girl in a portable cot in the space behind the cab seats and the at the time futon (laugh now)

This year i have fitted a 3/4 rock n roll bed, (yeeha) and i will be sleeping in the high top on my own and my missus and our little one now 15 months old will be sharing the 3/4 rock n roll, not sure how comfy the high top will be havnt tested it yet !!! good job im vertically challenged. :D
