That would be quite good though, I don't mind the beans, not keen on the sauce.

the plate rack is loose ,just knock it out and enlarge/reduce the holes,been meaning to do mine but have decided throwing everything in the wardrobe is easier

Dont leave any half empty Mc heart attack drinks in your cup holder overnight. They are made of wax coated paper and after a few hours the bottoms falls out. It aint half a sticky job cleaning it up I can tell Ye.....................( TWICE ).

My top tip is to buy little things, but then I'm used to going away on the bikes so I have enough camping stuff for 10 folk but I only take what I need. I started collecting small useful sized things for the van before we got it. So I have the smallest salt and pepper grinders in the world which I happend to find somewhere for a few quid. I still cook properly when on the bike I actually have a camping oven so small accessories are so exciting Matt thinks I'm off my head. I admit it!

I've bought shelves to go in the overhead cupboard from ikea which I'm going to cut down the legs on and use the other leg as a bracket for holding the cups, at the moment I'm relying on one of our cushions stuffed in the cupboard.

I think it's all about getting to know your space and where things are easy for you to get. For someone who can't remember what date it is I can pack my bike camping stuff in the same way every time we go, Matt has no idea where it is but as long as I can tell him or fetch it he doesn't care.

You take salt and pepper grinders! Agree though, small stuff is better, just how much tomato sauce can you eat in a weekend, not a whole bottle!

have you looked in the gap jed as you phantom larger may be in there??? i think a wine rack would look a bit silly with 3 bottles of vodka but more manly !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loads of tips here from "Camper Nerd Central":

Get yourself a water jug with lid - Tesco for about £15 with a filter - makes the water from standpipes on camp sites a lot nicer.

String bag for inside your awning - hang your veg in it!

Got a big cupboard where you keep the food - Mothercare do dead good locks that stops the door from flying open on roundabouts and put a large plastic crate in there with your stuff in - means you can carry the contents of the cupboard into the house when restocking to save trips to and from the van.

Golf-tees make great replacement door-catches for Electrolux fridges. Also keep a bulb of garlic in there all year round - we've found it soaks up the 'smell' but doesn't taint everything with garlic for some reason.

Matches survive longer if kept in a tin - and use a fag lighter instead.

Even if you never plan to eat Chips inside your van, keep vinegar in there as it's a dead ace chemical to have around - cleans anything, unblocks sinks (eventually) and is good to put on kids nettle stings.

Never let on to T'Onion that you have a chemical toilet.

Melamine plates tend to bounce better than ceramic ones!

As for extras: cafettiere, short wave radio, ham radio, cb radio, Worldspace radio, steamer thing that someone else has suggested, waterproofs, wellies, 10 litre fuel can (very useful in some parts of Wales!), large fibreglass roach pole with Club80-90 flag, books, proper steel mallet not one of the rubber ones, winter socks, hat, tow-rope, fan belt, accelerator cable, bog fluid....

Looking back, I think we have kitted our van out for around 250 quid tops - all from places like Wilkinsons, Poundstretchers, Tescos (for cutlery and utensils, etc) and car boot sales and a few charity shops. Also we love the 'tat' shops when at the seaside.

Only expensive items were SunCharm cooker for in the awning (saves steaming the interior up) and a JK melamine T25 plate, cup and bowl set. A lot of other items have come from inside the house or stolen from my mothers!

ours was on a similar budget - the luxuries being the Smev sink and cooker with the glass lids. The rest was down to Wickes and Homebase
