The boot and Sliding door CL Motors dont have the live connection.
Only the front doors use the live...they are master units the others act as slaves.

so does that mean sliding door and boot door, wont open the others?

So to open all doors, have to do from either fron door (master motor)

Yes. Turning the key in either the sliding door, or the boot just opens the door or tailgate.
Turning the key (or pulling the button up ) on a front door unlocks ALL doors and the Tailgate.
I've also fitted a switch on the dash that locks/unlocks all the doors.

The Tailgate motor moves a U shaped metal casting that controls how the key and push button interact to open the tailgate lock.
Not quite as complicated as it sounds...
With the motor in the locked position the key has to be turned to the right 45 degrees and the button pressed to open the tailgate. the key must be turned back to withdraw the key.
With the motor in the unlocked position the key can be turned to the right 45 degrees and the button pressed to open the tailgate. OR the key can be turned 90 degrees left (the key can be withdrawn in this position) and the button pressed.

In either case the key does not move the Motor slider, so will not unlock other doors, even if the motor was a master unit.

The sliding door motor locks and unlocks the door, but I dont think moving the locking button or using the key actually changes the position of the slider within the Motor. So having a Master motor wouldnt unlock all the doors.

I have recently found out that the tailgate actuator doesn't work on my '95 SA. Been driving around for weeks with it unlocked  never thought to check
Likely suspects? It's original factory c/l, not remotely operated, still on one key (so I can't hear if the actuator is working or not. Time to check for broken alloy stirrup/horse-shoe thing?

My CL boot lock didnt work when I bought the van, but I found that the linkage had simply fallen off. easy fix.

hi, got hold of 2 VW original slave motors now, trying to fit 1 in the sliding, door. Has anyone got a picture of the door locking motor position and also how the motor should then connect to the locking system?

Is there not a factory fitted way of connecting the motor to the lock? I basically have the motor fitted about 20 cms away in line with the door unlocking cable, or thereabouts. Then I need the cable in the picture below to connect to actually unlock the door

I thought that drilling a hole in the mechanism was just a work around for after factory fitting?

Have you got a pic of the motor installed in the slider? I'd be really interested to see how you get on with the tailgate installation. Possibly more useful imho

Everything u need is actually in the Haynes Manual, there are 3 comprehensive diagrams there, showing u exactly whats needed.

My implementation didnt like it that the motor in the door was a flat 90 deg to the mount, so had to angle it upwards a little and then it worked

The boot lock will give it a try when I get hold of some electrical cable, as the previous owner simply cut everything at the boot door, as its not original door

I pulled the trim off the tailgate to have a look and found...what I suspect to be the wrong actuator installed and the sliding stirrup seized on it's pivot/slide. Got it freed off but the motor is definitely not working, so must be burnt out (wiper and heated screen work ok so there's an earth, if that makes any difference)
The actuator has it's plug on the bottom, so only the "front" screw was installed on the bracket. The other hole won't line up and so Araldite had been doing the honours for a few years, but the seized linkage must have been the final straw. The actuator has part number 701 959 781 :? and is VAG...thankfully wiring not butchered.

This is what I've got, but doesn't work! You can just see the sliding stirrup on the back of the lock barrel, which the c/l actuator push/pulls. Taken from inside, high floor slightly obscures things...
