Frayed not, at least for one engine. I rang Exeter VW Van Centre in Sep for a new 2.1DJ and was told they where obsolete and no stock left. Same with Syncro gearbox, but not exhaust.
cheers
Patrick.

waterboxers have been obsolete from vw for at least 2 years, most gearboxes were at least a year ago too...
Unless you really must have it... see whats out there for the money, sure you could get a better one... that looks like its been parked in the sea at some point!!!

Think I might have got the last, ordered a recon, and was delivered a brand new one, made in Poland though. Engine code DX. engine number 31 06 ?

She is a beautiful thing.

Its normal to get a brand new one even if you have ordered an exchange one. This is not just engines its every exchange part. My theory is they dont want to risk warranty claims. They used to do factory recons but i have not seen one for along time.

Engine Code DX?
2,1l or 1,9l ?
I think "X" is for Exchange.
I've bought in 2007 a new 1,9l engine too, it's a 1,9l. I got it from

Yeah, I think the DX must refer to exchange, she is a DJ 2.1. Here are the parts code labels, and some documents that came with the engine,
Paul, good luck with your search.

I heard a rumour from one of my customers that heritage have gearboxes and lots of syncro stuff, he knows one of the guys who runs it, but I've not persued it. The stuff from Austria is now at classicparts in germany, but they won't sell the gearboxes outright to the uk, I have asked, but I've got some stuff on order from them as we speak.
New shipment of gears from Albins finally arrived this morning, new style with the dog teeth and cone seperate to the gear, which will make for ease and cheapness of refurbishment in 10 years time
Bad news is the cost, now including the shipping and duty basically 1:1 against the dollar, £330 each gear retail , £315 fitted and I make nada

, not sure how I square that with the taxman.
Shame VW didn't make them like that originally like Porsche did, but then they never expected gearboxes to get rebuilt much or for these vehicles to still be running after 20 years, or for peeps to fit new engines and want to change the ratios to suit.

025 100 031 DX is just the part number of the engine.
Number is probably 025 100 031 D, the X donates that the item is an eXchange part and the core unit is to be returned for surcharge credit.
If you plug that into ETKA it tells you that it is a DJ engine.
