Andy has a pug pump of mine somewhere in his workshop might do the job
There's a 1Z sat in my storage unit, head off crack tested ok, bottom end looks fine no scores or lips on bores, new head gasket and bolts with it, Andy's got the injectors at the mo, no pump £130 if anyone's interested, turbo and manifolds inc. Bought off floor supposedly 70k miles, looks right.
BUT I don't know whether it's a transverse or inline mounted one, and I don't know how to tell

Does the oil filter point down or towards gearbox

its in the box of bits - i think it pointed down like a jx

right so ive been fiddling again
the engine is still in my golf so far, as i,m still getting the few parts together, and waiting till i have time to do the swap

a while ago i removed the egr valve, and pipewirk from inlet to zaust manifold
i wasnt sure what to do with the air pipes, so just blocked the one from valve off

i have since removed the air pipes all together, blocking the outlet from actuator, and air vacume hose
that made adifference on its own

it was maxing out at 16-17 psi

i have now cut the hose from turbo housing to actuator, and fitted a bleed valve, i have it set to 20 psi
it did at one point run off my presure guage, as its only for under 20 psi, so was prob at 30 or more

anyone run boost presures as high in a van before??

im going to run lines to have adjuster in dash
will do same for van, when i get that far!!

I very much doubt it went that far... with a K14 or has it a TO3 turbo

Yes they have , but anything over 20 is getting high, Andy's run up to 30 I think

What sort of turbo?

Normally they're set to about 8~ 12 psi max on production diesels, not 16-17 psi

Are you def reading psi above atmos ( a proper boost gauge)

yeah its a proper boost guage
came out of old 220 turbo

it is a k14

i have seen people on gtd talkin of silly boost pressures!
do you think i hould try a different boost guage??

i wound it right down and it only boosted to around 7, wound back up, and went off guage, so im sure guage is working!!

my bad, checked and its a to3

Don't know what TO3's can boost to, but if it goes anywhere near 20 psi, must be quite different than a K14 which chokes early and EGTs skyrocket

Not saying it can't but... 30 psi is unlikely IMHO because peeps on GTD change them for bigger ones.

transverse then

so that requires what mod to fit ?

no mods required, it's the same block mounting pattern as JX so fits the JX engine mounts ok :D :ok

As clive pointed out its unlikely you went much over 20psi, my k24's with welded wastegates and loads of fuel do 36-38psi, i have done an hour at full boost without any issues a few times with the tdi, the AAZ's soon get hot.

ill try a new boost guage then

but it well goes past the 20psi mark on my current one

ah well its bloody quick i know that much!

just scares me when i see needle fly past the 20 mark, as i dont know what its doing

i have another guage, but its in bar, whats psi to bar measure??

1 bar= 14.5psi

Don't worry about how fast boost goes up worry about what happens when you lift off thats when its likely to all go badly wrong. With any turbo there are limits and when reached they just become hot air blowers which will just sent EGT's through the roof, 20 psi on a turbo that small is alot and without a good intercooler and disaster is just around the corner.
