..... so it is s'posed to have a clip on rear locking switch - but not on front one? I hope I'm not gonna break something by cable ti-ing front switch??
Did I mention that hoses on the rear switch are not tight to switch body - i.e. look as though they've been backed off (3mm+/-) to make room for clip -which is why I assumed was repair.
Hoses to front lock were tight to switch body - I needed to back off one hose (1/2-1mm) to get cable tie in place. This held inner part firm to outer and seems to have cured leak.
But as I said there's still short air blast when turning off lock but it sounds as though it should do that ...?
(

-just imagining all with ear to dashboard listening intensely while turning on and off!)

If you are close, engine quiet or engine just turned off, you will hear a short hiss as you operate the switch... so don't worry about that.
Using a vac gauge we worked out that the locks need about 15 cm Hg vacuum to operate reliably.
Another problem with the switch, partic the front is that the knobs can pull off the thread

Ah ha -thanks for confirmation re short hiss- sounded as though it should.
Another problem with the switch, partic the front is that the knobs can pull off the thread (can't do that thing where it says Harryman wrote..)
Yes -happened here -son pulled without twisting. Fortunately thread to knob went rather than to switch (-good design not luck I imagine!) and had spare picked up at vanfest 1-2 years previous.
So clip to rear and not to front - anyone know??

I've come across the clip on a few, it's a bodge, but maybe a factory one on some batch; always on the rears because over time the positive clip action of the threaded bit onto the spigot becomes less positive and you get that slipping problem. They are just small quality jubilee clips

NB. Our own

Aidian - yes very small, good quality clip. not seen one like it anywhere else so reckon you're right is a factory / official 'bodge'.
Simon - very nice and useful diagram... although strange shading to pipes given that the white ones blue and the dark ones white...??
Harryman -will take a look that!
Cheers all
