on the same topic I'm trying to replace my passenger side mirror but I cant get one of the screws undone, I've tried WD40 and as suggested by someone tapping the screwdriver with a hammer whilst turning and it still won't budge. To top it off the screw is pretty much knackered now, does anyone have any suggestions??

Try a wrench with a well fitting bit and press the wrench down on the screw while turning it.

Small chisel with much care.........or drill out the heads and use mole grips on what's left sticking out. They really won't be that tight and I would be very suprised if the don't just tap around with a sharp chisel edge.

A couple of caveats with 'tighting the bolt underneath' the mirror (once you remove the mirror of course) technique.

If you overtighten the nut it will snap!
Secondly, you cannot tell when you overtighten it.
Finally, even tightening original mirrors may not make them stay put.

So rather than tighten, remove the nut completely which will slacken the elbow completely. Then place a rubber washer (think garden hose washer) into the elbow gap. It will need to be split and inserted into the elbow (unless you're lucky and can remove the bolt from underneath the mirror - not likely). Then retighten normally.
