Thanks Elvis. Would putting biodiesel in the tank reduce emmissions enough for the vehicle to pass an MOT? I Have someone sorted to replace engine but they ain't gonna be able to do job until after 8th September and without van I'm totally stuffed :( I'll try anything that will get me out of bother until then.

If your looking for someone to recon your engine you could try CAZ engineering in Stratford E15 Tel 020 8555 3329, he did a resonable job for me, charged £800 for a full recon, I blow a hose on the motorway and completely wrecked my engine, he striped it and rebuilt it.

Thanks for your kindly advice mate. Problem is that the only place that sells biodiesel close to where I live is now closed for hols until 1st Sep!!!

Anybody know any other quick fix solutions to get me through an MOT emmissions test until my van gets an engine swap after 8th Sep? I remember there used to be some stuff that you added to the engine oil which was called "Piston Seal" (I think?). Has anyone out there used these kind of products and do they actually work on a short term basis?....or will I simply be wasting my money?

$hit load of tescos cooking oil , diesel left in tank will thin it down a bit. should be ok in this weather (not too cold for it to thicken)

with 5l of existing derv , lob in a 25l drum of oil from ya local asian supermarket or cash and carry. once you get ya ticket , carry on with derv , fill tank u and away ya go.
Useage of cooking oil (SVO) could go on forever as to whether its good for ya pump or not , but pouring it in before you drive to MOT , then filling up with derv on way home will see you right.

hi spirol,l have the same problem and my mot's up soon, 1.6d my plan is do a cheap service oil,air and fuel filter and add some wynns stop smoke to the oil, it needs a new exhaust so l'm changing that anyway, would like to clean the inlet manifold but can't get the hex head bolt's out then run it on bio, it burns hotter than petrodiesel so less smokey, but am just putting off the inevitable really my engines shagged it's only 8 mouths old recon but did 78mph in it once was never the same after that,a lesson learned 1.6 diesels have limits.
