If your headgasket is gone, you shouldn't drive it anymore.
It might yet be salvageable by simply putting a new gasket on it, new head in the worst case. Driving it will ensure that you will definetly need a new complete engine.
Renting another vehicle until you can get this one sorted might just be cheaper.

thing is, oil in the top up tank isnt enough evidence, as WBX head gaskets dont seperate the oil and water.
what else did he tell you?
did you get positive evidence of combustion gasses in the coolant?
im not saying its not whats happened, but dont be paying for a water jacket and head gasket change and then find there is a hole or crack in the head(s)
i had this a few years ago, [img:640:480]

a rather annoying problem to find, it was fine throughout bleeding up, and would tick over for hours, temp fine, everything working ok, but go a few miles up the road, and it overheated, system full of zorst gasses........... so you see im just saying, be sure what is being done, if you arent the one stripping it down, make sure those that do look very closely at the heads.....
good luck.

cheers mocki for the help today! after speaking to mocki i decided to inspect the heads to see if i thought it was a job i might attempt myself.i was weighing up the job when i tugged on a head bolt and noticed it was loose(ish)so out came the socket set!the 2 head bolts on either side of the spark plugs were tightened up 1 turn and a bit and just short of 1 turn.i bled system and went out with the missus for a 40 mile drive and all appears well!! can't believe it!! and when i was driving back down the moors the temperature gauge actually came down to below the red led.i am gonna check the other bolts and will let you know when i have.but tonight i am well chuffed and am offering free beer to any member who turns up at my house in the next 3 minutes, cheers ben
