Thanks for letting me know about the head gaskets being back in stock.

We have just completed a 750 mile return trip to north Wales and it ran fine apart from leaking water.

To be honest we are both finding it hard to drive as we feel its so under powered on the motor way. We are struggling to hold 50mph up the hills and we only hold this by dropping to third and keeping the revs up. We are thinking that rather then spend money on the 1.6TD we should go for a 1.9TD or even the TDI? We want to use the Syncro for long Europe trips and even though its never going to be a speed machine being able to keep up with the traffic would be nice!

If anyone has any advice or has put a bigger engine in let us know the pros and cons and who did the conversion company or yourself?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Thanks for link. The 1.9TD looks a lot easier as it has no ECU? Any idea of the cost of that type of conversion and any idea who could do it as I do not have th time and I think its beyond me as its more that a basic engine swap!

Myself, Russel at Syncronutz or CJ at Syncrospares will all do you a tidy conversion.
Beware there are some so called "specialists" out there that are a bit, er, special.
