Couldn't agree more Pat.
As I mentioned above VW UK don't even seem to know what they are, let alone want to provide any genuine support, but then today, suits are suits and breadheads are breadheads... don't expect anyone working at VW MK to be an enthusiast, despite the Chairman's crap on their website about '.. being one big all-incluive VW family' That's the cynicism that makes me puke, much worse than just admitting they hate the 'bus' image... and can't get away from it quickly enough...
i can understand that, the bus image...to me a camper is a camper, nothing else, not one of the family...er..even a pet. just a means of transport and sleeping in. i dont agree with not being to get parts though.
i have never been into the 'VW' thing, coolness etc. they are slow, they breakdown often, unreliable...etc etc. dont even look good, and dont get me started on beetles...Hitlers car thats all.
if the parts keep failing or not made anymore, thats a differant thing, its a mass produced machine, still used all over the world, so parts should still be available as people will still need them

Plenty of bongos and freindees about, if that is what you want shefieldcoljules. Not quite sure what your getting at. Hitler didnt design the beetle, he just ordered it made. It became poular for a reason.
I got into VW because that is what my dad has always used. 20 years of living and working in South Africa in the 50's, 60's and early 70's using Beetles, Variants and Microbus's, as they were the only vehicles suited to the terrain, they were the only reliable form of transport in desert conditions. That got me into VW's. This attachment means that VW's are part of the family to me. Not everyone is the same. But to me it is a great shame that VW are turning their back on us.
You are right though, and I hope that there are enough T3's about for someone to start producing bits.
I wonder what VW South Africa do for parts, as they only went out of production 6 years ago.

Pretty sure Hitler didn't design the Beetle, wasn't it someone called Porsche

I expect Derek Bezuindehout and friends stockpiled a fair few for that eventuality, certianly the difficult bits - they would know what was low on stock and could never be made again due tooling costs
