I agree with the others on this, 70mph plus needs almost full throttle to maintain. A 1.9 wasserboxer's comfort zone is around 60mph, any higher and you are thrashing it. If you want the engine to stay reliable and return better fuel figures then CHILL.........take in the view.......get in the zone........turn the journey into part of the holiday and not just a means of getting to the destination.
1.9 wasser driven like this will return 25mpg or even a tad more.

Thanks all.

Advice much appreciated.

I'll be ticking along nicely at 60mph all the way to Barcellona (adventurous for my first trip I know).

Am not going to get a chance to have her seen by a pro before I set of in a week - any advice on key bits to change/check before I leave would be much appreciated.

Clarts, that 30mpg is quite spectacular, are you using a Hewlett Packard, Texas Instruments or an old Sinclair calculator :)

my DF struggles to get over 50mph unless it is on a big road, the 30 mpg is based on always putting in £20 and driving 120 miles on it (60 miles to campsite, 60 mile back from the capsite). also driving back from newcastle we worked out it was about 30mpg.

it may not be that accurate, but I dont see it being anywhere near 20mpg, perhaps if I thrash it - it would go that low.
