Children and animals are affected by much lower concentrations. The reason I did so much research into this is because we woke up one morning with megan vomiting and eyes rolling back, jut for the record the fridge was on and the gas bottle was running out. It freaked me out considerably. Now we turn off the gas before going to sleep. Yes hot gas rises but on a cold night with a gradual leak the CO will enter the van at a much lower temperature, possibly below internal temperature. So there you go, a few opinions take your pick. It may be worth doing a test maybe pipe the exhaust into the fridge cavity with two sensors and see which one goes off first.

best thing to do is service the fridge

manufacturers instructions override ALL ,theory's ,superstitions,guesses ,opinions, science ,and newtons law ....Fact ! follow manufacturers instructions on where to locate co detectors !!!!

My Advise as always is to ensure ALL ,gas appliances checked by a qualified engineer ,at least once a year no exceptions !

Always observe any ventilation requirements of ANY fuel burning appliance including barbecue's wood burners ,oil burners etc etc !
Always use your fuel burning appliance for it's intended use !!
(a cooker hob is for cooking not warming your van up on cold mornings )
Invest in a sealed battery operated carbon monoxide detector , SF produce some good ones to higher than minimum reqd standards ! you dont need any fancy display or flashy lights ,they just ad to the price of the unit ,an audible alarm is all you need !

DONT use the cheep/free square disk /paper type carbon monoxide detectors / they are next to useless and wont save your sleeping families life !

If you change /swap gas bottles regularly and worry about gas leaks etc then get yourself a can of proper leak detection spray from any plumbers merchants fer a few quid ,it lasts ages and is one less thing to frett over !

just a word of caution with co meters, some need to be calibrated (zeroed) in fresh air!!
