Nice link to your piccies Jed!
We've got 1 year old twins and new (well, old, but new to us...) Westy. Had first night out a couple of weeks ago and went with Mum and boys downstairs and me up top... all grand! Away again in a couple of weeks and prob do same again, or maybe one up one down with each of us...
Liking all the other options and adaptations by folks though, cheers!

hi all, just a quick update, my little girl is now 3.5 and still sleeping on the cot mattress on luggage rack with bed saver as described earlier in the thread. she seems to really like it in there and it has worked well for a year or so now. i would recommend it as a good solution for small child bed. a couple of bungees under the mattress hold the bed saver in position and stop it getting pushed out.
i guess next year she will go upstairs in the hi-top with her big brother

The Parcel Shelf Bed pics are ours - we have done about 8 weeks away over the last three years - much of it Wild camping - with this arrangement which works very well for us on may levels.
The 6 month old is now nearly 4 and has move up into the Hi-top - we now have his bro (21 months in the Hitop) on the parcel shelf.
If like us you take loads of stuff (bikes/kites/baby seats/waterproofs/helmets/wetsuits/mountain buggy (pram) plus all the usual sleeping/eating and living gear) having the Parcel Shelf available in the day for storage - along with the Hi-top area is great.
If we are organised - the only things we sling outside overnight are Pram and Baby Seats (in Big waterproof bags).
We also take a small tent - used on campsites for putting excess stuff in on days out and the babyseats overnight.
It always amazes me when people say they are getting rid of the van "due to forthcoming baby". We only got ours when son 1 came along as we wanted to carry on holidaying in the outdoors, walking, camping and exploring these Islands and further. Babies and vans work very well IMHO. (and a lot better than hotels/B&Bs and Airports)

I totally agree!
I know cash is tighter when one comes along with a lot of folks but that always seems odd to me too. Its a great way to explore with a bab!
