Does anyone else find that JK stuff doesnt fit properly. ie mud flaps!!

Does your bed have use a wooden box over the engine bay, or is it flat on the engine lid if you know what i mean. Was looking at mine this afternoon, and as I have a box over the engine lid to bring the bed up in line with the RnR seat bit, i'm not sure I'll have as much room as you have. Might still be do-able though if i make the shelf bed a bit narrower.
Also have you mounted brackets or is it just two strips fo wood for the bed to rest on?

Will do some pics tomorrow - wood scavenging permitting (we have a few trees down locally that need ...ahem - tidying up!)

Our Mattress sits on engine lid - this is at same height as RnR bed

PCB sits on the original Parcel Shelf supports (strips of wood screwed into wardrobe and other side (van didn't come with Parcel Shelf so i knocked one up out of plywood).
Pics will explain better.

The ply was an offcut from B&Q with a couple of bits of gash timber round the edges for strentghening.
Cot mattress used and cut down to fit.

It rests on the Parcel Shelf rests supplied in the conversion.
We can't open the wardrobe with the mattress on (but there is an LPG tank in there anyway!).

IIRC it was less than a tenner for a bespoke sized to fit (just send the measurements - we got another for the upstairs bed too).

...how do you reach into the fridge and put the kettle on - if your head is at the back.....? Unless you can perhaps do this with your feet?

My kettle is not kept in the fridge

TBH, the first thing my wive said was "Thats where you put your head".

She thinks it will make here feel a bit claustrophobic...

We wont be doing it - but its a good idea...

thanks for the pics. Gonna give it a go i reckon. We'll just sleep with our heads at the other end. Not sure we'll have as much clearance as you though as our overhead cupboard seems lower and our bed has a bed base lifting it up 6 inches or so. Hoping summer will go for this though, if she can see us. she seems to be claustrophobic in the hightop at the moment.... maybe next year when she'll understand a bit more she'll go up there.
I'm thinking of re-using the front cab bunk I made last year, and fitting this is the boot bit. Should give summer a bit more width hopefully, as the cab bunk one i made for the front isn't that wide really. Hoping with the natural sag you'll get she won't fall out either.

Gonna have a go this weekend hopefully, so will let you know how we get on.

Well thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Today I have been mostly making a new bed for little summer to sleep in. Seems to have worked out quite well i think.

I used the brackets I had from making the bunk last year in the cab area. Instead of going for a ply bed, I have gone for a bunk option. Hoping the natural sag this creates will stop summer from rolling out. If she does roll out though she'll only fall on our legs.

Hopefully she'll like sleeping there, but if needs be I'll take the top cupboard out for a bit to give her more headroom. She doesn't like the hightop as she cant sit up, but hoping this will get her used to a similar thing but whislt being able to see us, she might not get as scared.

Got her a proper sleeping bag this year too so hoping she sleeps well on our first outing weekend after next. Did you know you can get sleeping bags that can extend as they grow?

We didn't seem to have the room to put the bunk down at the foot end in the parcel shelf, and I was surprised to see you had a cupboard there like we do.

I've gone an eBayed myself another "Jesus" Handle for the front of the van so I might fashion some way of using the pair of handles as a rest for one of the poles used in the hammock.

summer is 21 months, so not that big really. There seems to be ample room for her on the bunk. I tried lying on the bed with my legs under the bunk and it seems fine really. In what way did you not have room?
Not sure what jesus handles are. you can get brackets for poles though from camping shops. i have used some for my bunk,think they're only a couple of quid or so each.

My Little fella and Noddy both love the cab bunk, he's 2 and has loads of room.
